Elisa Lam- A Mysterious Case
A case which shocked everyone in 2013. To this day, it remains unsolved.
Who is Elisa Lam ?
Elisa Lam is a 21 year old Canadian student. A young college student who had long been planning a solo trip up the coast of California. The trip was supposed to be a getaway from her studies at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, where she was originally from. Her family had been afraid of her traveling by herself but the young student was determined to go alone. She opted to stay at the Cecil hotel in Los Angeles.
Cecil Hotel’s Dark History
The first reported death was on November 19, 1931 when a man committed suicide. Since then, over a dozen other deaths-suicides, overdoses, and murders have taken place at the hotel.
Best known as the “Night Stalker” , Richard Ramirez stayed in Cecil Hotel. He was convicted of 13 counts of murder, five attempted murders and 11 assaults.
Then in 1991, serial killer Jack Unterweger checked into the Cecil Hotel. During his stay at the Cecil Hotel, he allegedly killed at least three workers. Despite receiving a life sentence, Jack was released on parole in 1990.
Then it was followed by Elisa Lam’s mysterious death in 2013.
Elisa Lam’s Disappearance
Elisa Lam promised to check in with her parents every day of the trip to let them know that she was safe. Her parents got worried when they didn’t hear from their daughter on Jan 31, the day she was scheduled to check out of the Cecil Hotel.
The Lams eventually contacted the Los Angeles Police Department. The police searched Elisa Lam’s room in hotel.
Lam had left her belongings behind at the hotel, including her laptop and clothing. There were no signs of forced entry into her room, nor any drug-related paraphernalia.
Surveillance footage
The police soon found a security footage from one of the hotel’s elevators in which Elisa Lam was sighted. Lam can be seen stepping into the elevator and pushing all the floor buttons. She appeared to be speaking with someone unseen. Her movements were strange. Nobody else was captured on the video, except Lam. She jumped in and out of the elevator. Then, she vanished.

Discovery of Lam’s body
Two weeks after the footage was published by authorities, maintenance worker Santiago Lopez in Cecil hotel received complains from the people who stayed in hotel. They complained that a weird taste was coming from the tap water.
Then when he went to check the water tanks in hotel, he found Elisa Lam’s dead body floating in one of the water tanks.
Investigation
After Elisa Lam’s body was found, police investigation continued. They investigated the hotel receptionist and the maintenance worker and other people in the hotel but no clues were to be found. To this day her case remains unsolved.
Theories behind Elisa Lam’s death
Theory 1 : Bipolar Disorder
Elisa Lam had Bipolar disorder and depression. She was on medication to keep her on balance. The conclusion was that Lam was off the medication, broke from reality and drowned herself in the water tank.
Theory 2 : Elevator Game
Elevator game is a ritual. When performed properly, you can be transported to another dimension.
The game should be performed in a building which have at least 10 floors. You have to press the buttons in the elevator in a particular order. Finally in the 5th floor, a strange woman will enter into the elevator. According to the ritual, you should not see or speak with the woman because she is not human.
When you reach the tenth floor, you exit the elevator and enter a new dimension. You will be in the hotel but only you exist. You have to complete the ritual with proper steps, otherwise you may end up in a strange situation.
