I understand.

Hi, Jewel. You’re such a smart and valuable young woman! And I feel for you and fear for you. I hope you can get out of there, albeit that it is your home. I once heard or read (I don’t remember exactly when or where) this: “I asked men why they are afraid of women and they answered ‘because we fear they’d laugh at us’; I asked women why they are afraid of men and they answered ‘because we fear they’d kill us' “. I think this is the core of things and it’s self-explaining and the only cure is education. I understand you’re from Pakistan and it reminded me of a Pakistani boy I met about 24 years ago, when I was a student ( yes, I’m THAT old). He was 19 and he had come to my country to study medicine, I think. He had beautiful, long (past his shoulders), wavy, dark, silky hair which I loved to comb my fingers through. He was a Guns’n’Roses fan (like I was) and we used to watch together concert recordings of this band (and others) on the VCR. His name was Hassan, he was cute and fun and sensitive. But I remember him dreading to have to go back to his country, where he had to cut his hair and forget all about rock music and where he had to comply to the type of living imposed in his country which was completely different from what he liked and wanted. I now wonder what has become of him. He must be in his mid forties now. I can’t imagine him behaving like that toward women. But maybe the face he showed me was different from his real one. I don’t know. I knew him only for a brief period of time. Stay strong!
