Unfortunately banks in your country set the trend for other countries too. We are swamped up in fees -hidden and otherwise- in my country also. My father - may he rest in peace- buying into their ads and thinking they were what they used to be, put some money in a bank to earn some interest. To his shock and bewilderment, not only did it not earn him any interest, but the bank informed him that he owed them money. The sum he had deposited was eaten up by all sort of fees, like account maintenance fee and such, so after the amount he had put in the bank finished, he ended up in debt. So he had to pay more money from his pocket in order to be able to close the account. After my mother died, I had a horrendous time trying to close her account, which turned out to be a near impossible mission. I was lucky to have known somebody who worked there to pull some strings and make it possible. Because of all this I hate banks with a passion and I do everything in my power to avoid them to whatever extent it is still possible.
