Well, it’s only natural for him to think he’s invulnerable. He did it all his life, he got away with everything no matter how blatant and he lived to be 70 without really paying for anything. You can’t teach an old horse to wear the harness -we have this saying in my country. The cuff links story amused me, but I can’t help but find it providential and defining for him: he knows exactly what he does, at whose expense and what the consequences are for the others. He will do that on a larger scale, undoubtedly. He unabashedly insults the intelligence of others- as he did Sheen (who kind of deserved it, if you asked me). He certainly knew that Sheen will find out soon enough, but he didn’t give a damn about it. He is arrogance knows no limits and he is obviously used by others to reach their purposes. He doesn’t care, he’s the king of the world for however long it will last and, frankly, what more could a person of his type could want from life? By the time he gets to pay for it, he will have been dead, like he himself said. He doesn’t have anything to lose, and these are the most dangerous type. In my country’s experience, Ceausescu-who was quasi illiterate (sounds familiar?)- and his minions used to refer to the people as ‘the imbeciles’. They paid with their lives, sure, but in their 70’s and after they had lived an undeservedly good and full life. As for the mass movements, yes, in my country’s particular case, these movements played an important part in the fall of the communists, but only after thousands of people died -most of them aged 15 to 30. I had friends who died then, aged 19 to 27, they were my generation (I was 21 at the time), ironically all of them children of the decree- ‘Ceausescu’s army’, as they would call us. But less than a decade later, history repeated itself, the former communist leadership was replaced by ‘capitalists’ who derisively refer to the populace by terms along the same lines as the communists before them, only in much more vulgar terms. So, now people are jaded -at least my generation is, and the young one only cares about cars, easily made money and sex and they are effortlessly manipulated. The good ones leave the country as soon as they can. Now it’s each for their own. Things may change for the better or they may very well not. Maybe it won’t be the same for your people, maybe you’re built differently as a nation, but more and more voices around me say it’s the beginning of the end for the States. I personally hope not, but by the looks of things…

Nice to hear from you again -not that I don’t come by your comments here and there, when I have a moment to sneak a peek on Medium:)
