Eat that Frog with a Pomodoro!

The Pomodoro Technique can help us power through distractions, hyper-focus, and get things done in short bursts. The stages of planning, tracking, recording, processing and visualizing are fundamental to the technique. In the planning phase tasks are prioritized by recording them in a “To Do Today” list. This enables users to estimate the effort tasks require. As pomodoros are completed, they are recorded, adding to a sense of accomplishment and providing raw data for subsequent self-observation and improvement.

A goal of the technique is to reduce the impact of internal and external interruptions on focus and flow.

There are few steps of pomodoro technique:

1. Decide on the task to be done

2. Set the pomodoro timer (alarm) to 25 minutes.

3. Work on the task until the timer rings. If a distraction pops into your head, write it down, but immediately get back on the task.

4. After the timer tings, put a star on a piece of paper.

5. Take a short 3–5 minute break.

6. Repeat steps 1–4

7. After you have 4 ticks on your paper, you can take a longer break (15–20 minutes), and continue working on your task by going to step 1 until you complete your task.

I tried this technique to complete my task.

My task was:

MAKING A PRESENTATION TO DELIVER LECTURE AT UNIVERSITY

I am doing internship at Mayo Hospital Lahore. During my internship I also teach to medical student. For this purpose I had to make a presentation. I planned to make presentation through Pomodoro technique.

First of all, I charged my laptop and cleaned my table. I kept all those necessary books and material on table which I need while making presentation. I set my phone on silent mode. This is the best way to avoid distraction.

Then I set alarm to 25 minutes.

I worked efficiently till 25 minutes until alarm rang. I completed my work almost 30 %. But when I was working, my sister called me to open the door as someone was on door. But readily I came back to my work.

After marking a tick on paper. I took a break of 3 minutes and drink a glass of milk.

After having break I started again my work and continue this process four time. And seriously through this technique I have done my work in two hours effectively.
