Yeah I definitely need to travel more and make more friends, thats a given.
But let me clarify what I mean… the term ‘white man’ to people in the US and probably most of Western Europe means of European decent, and to a lesser degree, of European blonde decent. Being born in the area of the Caucasus you are probably more Caucasian than most who claim it — but the popular definition and use of that word has been changed in the West.
These same primarily English speakers will see you more as an Asian mix than white. And really if your ancestors are primarily from the Caucasus mountains, then you should recognize the reality that you’re Asian regardless of skin tone.
The sense of entitlement stuff I was talking about comes from how I’ve seen people of light skin behave and how they see themselves compared to darker skinned people. The kindest and most well-meaning light-skinned person will not understand that their skin tone buys them privilege wherever they go on the planet and so there’s often an automatic sense of entitlement that comes along with that.
I definitely think you should be treated with basic human decency and dignity no matter where you’re from and regardless of how you look. What I was responding to you about was that whole paragraph with statements like ‘You still think I enjoy all the same privileges that all other white males enjoy…’ — which makes it sound like you’re mad as hell that YOU are not getting treated as a proper white male, rather than mad that people in general are getting treated that way. I’m crying a river of tears that you’ve had some trouble traveling but you should step in the shoes of some darker skinned guy for a second and see how your experience stacks up.
