Nash Edgerton’s short film “Bear” took my emotions for a roller-coaster ride with its dark humor and a shocking twist. I will preface by saying..
..those undies told me everything I needed to know about this man. Let’s get into it.
So this man decided to go all out for his girlfriend’s birthday. He doesn’t get up to turn off his alarm, resulting in her waking up to an annoying repeating sound. Afterwards, he comes down stairs, in his skid mark underwear, (only guessing) to drink out of the bottle and eats her breakfast that she has been preparing. Not a word was spoken to her, besides the word “What”.
Stop, because it gets better. Essentially he waits until she leaves, races in his car, to get to the bike trail (where she is obviously trying to figure out why she’s still with him) to surprise her with a picnic in a bear costume.
Does that make sense?
She falls of the cliff. Yes, you guessed it, the surprise went terribly wrong. She pedaled her bike off the cliff. Amazingly, she was okay and survived. Unfortunately, her boyfriend gets shot by a bystander who thought it was a bear attacking someone.
I thought the short film was straightforward, but executed in a clever way. As the story leads up to the bear, there is a level of suspense that falls into humor. The simpleminded boyfriend adds to the frustration felt by the girlfriend on her special day.
To add to this film, I would have increased the build up leading to the plot twist and also added more character development so the audience could understand the dynamic of this couple, but I recommended watching this.
Ironically, this sounds like something that could happen in real life. We are in 2024. There is a man out there thinking this is a good idea for a birthday surprise right now.
If this does happen to any woman out there, RUN GIRL.. if your legs are still working!
