Who Made the After School App?
The After School App was founded by two young entrepreneurs driven to make a measurable positive impact on the world by enabling communication with technology. Inventor and entrepreneur Michael Callahan (CEO) and investor and entrepreneur Cory Levy (COO) launched the company in November of 2014 to serve as a fun and safe space for teens to connect and share with their classmates.
The app has grown since, and now reaches students in over 90% of U.S. high schools with millions of registered users. After School has implemented dozens of new features from encouraging teens to give their classmates compliments to “would you,” a feature that allows students to ask others anonymously if they would like to participate in an activity with them, to safety features including a Zero Tolerance Policy against cyberbullying and referrals to trained Crisis Counselors for teens in need.
Michael Callahan, After School Co-Founder & CEO
Michael J. Callahan is After School’s Co-Founder and CEO. Before launching ONE, the company that created the After School App, Michael co-founded a voice synthesizer that gives back the ability to speak to those with vocal cord or neurological damage called the Audeo. This invention led Michael to receive the MIT-Lemelson Foundation award for Outstanding Innovation. The invention also led to Michael making the first voiceless phone call at the Texas Instruments Developer Conference.
Bullied as a teenager, Michael saw the opportunity to help today’s teens who are constantly connected with technology. Michael regularly speaks to teachers, students, business leaders and others about topics ranging from bullying to suicide prevention.
