Hi! Thanks for your message. It’s true that double-blind peer review can help, and I am always surprised by the humanistic resistance to that approach. I suppose it stems from exactly what you’re suggesting: antipathy towards the long-term consequences of meritocracy, and the desire to accumulate power and prestige. Also the stylistic patterns of writing in the humanities make identities less hidden.
That’s sort of why I’m advocating the opposite: explicit attentiveness to and resistance of bias, until we reach that equal playing field we’re all dreaming of.
