A Tutorial: Installing Ubuntu Server 20.04 on VirtualBox

Before we start, let’s review a little bit about Ubuntu Server. Quotes from Techopedia explained, that Ubuntu Server is a part of the larger set of Ubuntu products and operating system developed by Canonical Ltd.

Step to step:

1. Download here and Install Virtual Box on your device.

2. Download here for Ubuntu Server (this tutorial used 20.04 version)

3. After the download process is complete, open the virtual Box that was installed earlier. Then, click the icon ‘New’.

4. Then the page appears as below. You have to fill in the part of ‘Name’, select the ‘Folder’ that will be used to save and fill in the ‘ISO Image’ section with the downloaded ubuntu server that has been done. When done click ‘Next’ button.

5. Then create your Username, Password, and a Hostname.

6. Do adjust with specification as needed for the configuration before proceeding.

7. Review the summary of your configuration then click ‘Finish’ button to proceed to the next step.

8. The installation process will take some time so be patient. After going through a long process, you are required to choose the language to be used.

9. Because I’m not using the latest version, so choose the ‘Continue without updating’ then press the enter button.

10. For the following steps, just press continue as shown in the picture below.

11. Set up your profile for use to log in to the system, remember the username and password. Then, press enter on the ‘Done’ button.

12. Set up SSH for secure remote access. This section is optional, so you can skip it by simply press enter on the ‘Done’ button.

13. Select and install the popular snaps that you would like to have on your server environment. Then, press enter on the ‘Done’ button.

14. Wait a few moments for the system installation process to complete and reboot when the process is complete.

15. After reboot is finished, you will be directed to the login page of your Ubuntu Server. Input the username and password that you set up before.

16. Finish! Congrats you can use ubuntu server now.
