Independent if you are just launching your startup or have been on the market for a few years now, it might be challenging to establish media partnerships that will help you build a strong presence online.

Many startups who are releasing a beta version of their product, are announcing an investment round or simply want to increase their SEO through backlinks from high-authority media domains, are often debating if they should hire an in-house PR person or start collaborating with an external PR agency, that could help them secure online publication.

Investing in a community program pays off

In 2011 and 2013 I was co-organizing a global summit for the members of the Google Top Contributor Program. We invited and flew-in around 600 community program members supporting all Google products from Gmail, Maps to AdWords from 46 countries. These users spend 3 days at Google headquarters in Mountain View with plenty of attractions and training organized specially for them. All paid by Google. I won’t be revealing the exact numbers but you can imagine that this must have been quite a significant cost for Google, who is investing in organizing such an event on a bi-yearly basis.

Since I can remember, I was always a gamer. As a kid, I could spend hours playing board games like Scrabble, Talisman: The Magical Quest Game or Monopoly.

When I was 8 years old I got a Game Boy — the legendary handheld game console from Nintendo. This is also when I was introduced to one of my all-time favorite games: Super Mario Land.
