Arrival in Venice
“ARRIVAL IN VENICE” is EXTRACT FIVE — FROM PART TWO: EPISODE ONE of tales told “out of school” and (intentionally) out of order: i.e., extracts from /S/4: Ego-histoire, an anti-memoir of a PhD project, written across the years 2021–2023, and ending with the (un)timely discovery of the mysterious phenomenon (agency) of THE EDITION OF ONE.

EXTRACT FIVE — FROM PART TWO: EPISODE ONE
Return to Venice en route to Ljubljana.
ARRIVAL IN VENICE
Arrived yesterday on time and immediately ran into tourist madness. Got caught in vaporetto chaos when I took a wrong route to San Giorgio Maggiore, where I am staying. But it was instructive in terms of putting me on alert to plan carefully to avoid what chaos I can — and Americans. (That includes the Biennale.)
Stayed up (awake) throughout the flight (and night) listening to music and watching two films … Then, to break the jet lag, I did reconnaissance in the afternoon along the Giudecca to see if everything required is still there and I can avoid the tourist hordes. Found tobacconist, grocery, restaurants, cafés, and post office. Should be able to slip out of here Sunday by that backdoor. It is the route I should have taken when I arrived.
