September 22 will mark the 24 Birthday of one of the most popular sitcoms of all time, Friends. The show originally aired in 1994 with a fresh face of new entertainers, little did they know what they were in for. The show rocked NBC’s airwaves then and is rocking Netflix’s most popular list today. But how does a show from the 90’s still have such a dominant presence in 2018?

The show followed a group of late twenty-year old’s in New York City living their daily lives while juggling work, romance, and friendships. There’s no doubt that the show at one point made you want to live with your best friend, or fall in love like Rachel and Ross, or have a crazy friend like Phoebe. The reason this show has crept back into a whole new generation is simply because we missed out on it the first time around. When I first watched Friends, my mom told me how her friends all came over every Thursday to watch together, giving them somewhat the same feeling as in the show. I even remember as a kid hearing the famous “I’ll Be There for You” theme song when she was watching it.

Now being 19 and having watched the show from start to finish twice, I can say Friends is like the Sitcom of my life, and I think it’s safe to say others feel the same way. The show brings almost a feeling of nostalgia of a time I never was in. As much as I would love to wear some of the girl’s outfits, I know it wouldn’t work in in this age of time. But most of all, we want the lifestyles the show had. Could you imagine how cool it would be to live so close with your best friends, sipping coffee all the time, and seeming to never work.

The show continues to bring in over 16 Millions views weekly deeming it one of the most timeless shows. The shows next generation come back has sprung the creation of stickers, t-shirts with the cast on them, and has made getting coffee a lot more relatable. For everyone the show brought us new ways of say “Oh. My. God”, or “Pivot” or “We were on a break”. In the end the show has and continues to bring us laughs, tears, and delight in a way that no other show has.
