In the context of “New Consuming Trends” a course of Panteion Univeristy, taught by Mrs Betty Tsakarestou, our team (Shooters) participated in a research project called Mobile Me and You, following the Mobile Collaborative Consumption and Sharing Economy trends. The subject of the project concerns the relationship of millennials with their mobile phones and their impact on the society and on the market. We decided to focus our research on Photo Editing Apps Applications.

After months of a continuous project and after completing 10 quetionnaires with full on depth interviews, our research concluded to some results and insights that helped us understand our generation better, while some other impressed us as we didn't expect them.

First of all we seperate our insights in two main categories. As our interviews examined both the relation of millenials with their phones in general and the use of photo editing apps more specifically, our results are divided into insights about mobile phone use and insights about photo editing apps.

Mobile phone use:

· Millennials use their phone a lot during their day. When they are in company they prefer to have face to face communication and not interact with their phone, but most use it even then in order to reply to a message or to a notification that may come up. The hours differ, some say that they estimate to use it about 3 hours in a day while some other have checked that they use their phone for more than 10 hours in a day

· They usually feel they cant live without their phone as they see it as a tool that helps and organizes their everyday life. In case someone took it away from them they would feel anxious and weird.

· Most millennials are very familiar with online purchases and buy a lot of stuff online, from clothes and little things, to booking an accomondation or arrange their transportation.

· Almost everybody we asked said that they prefer their mobile phone over other devices, especially due to the portable and more easy to use character they have. More demanding users said that they prefer their laptops or PCs but are pretty satisfied with their mobiles

Photo editing apps

· Most millennials are aware of the VSCO app, which they said that contains an easy to use interface, different filters and a big variety of features . Some other responses were instasize, pixlr, photo editor. Almost everyone admitted that Instagram is a photo editing app by its own. Most of the users said that they are using more than 1 app while editing a photo which are Vsco, Instasize, Facetune, Photoshop, Lightroom and Inframe. As far as video editing apps are concerned, Filmora is the best application that you can find.

· All the previous apps are available for free and almost no one bought the paid features that are extra. These were the responses from amateur/everyday users who upload photos on social media, while the more demanding users who have photography as a hobby said that they use some applications that are available as paid for example Photoshop. The same strategy follow the video editing apps which are free but if you want extra services, you should pay for the extra version.

· Millenials make use of the photo editing apps before uploading a photo. Almost everyone mentioned that they will proceed to an edit a before upload a photo. Many people upload a photo on social media (Instagram, facebook) 2–3 times in a week.

· They usually trust their mobile phone camera, as they have last generation phones with the maximazist capabilities, but a small percentage of interviewers told us that they still prefer their digital camera. However, some use a photo editing app in order to enhance a photo’s quality, especially when it is captured during low light conditions.

· Most users aren’t aware of photo editing communities. The most demanding users we asked are aware of the communities of VSCO and pinterestwhile some others use the 500pix community where they can sell their photographs as well.

· Photo editing apps are easy to use according to millennials. The majority said that free editing apps are aiming to amateur photographers and they have limited capabilities that an everyday user isn’t able to distinguish. Paid apps are easy to use for the demanding target group they aim, while an amateur user would have trouble using them.

· 9 of 10 photos on instagram are result of photo editing.

· Editing apps are quite important because they offer you the ability to create your own style and your own profile. They usually use the same filters in their photos because they want their intagram profile to be consistent. Moreover, they agreed that they are a tool to create something very beautiful.
