Okay, to everyone defending the writer of this memo… From what I can gather being asked.
- “He’s not being sexist, prove that he’s being sexist!”
…His memo literally says men are more capable of certain jobs then women (and that women are more suited for other jobs). How… how is that not sexist?
2. “He’s not being racist!”
While I don’t see any specific example of this, as his memo seems to be largely about men and women, but complaining about diversity is… kind of a staple of racism. But unless I missed something, he didn’t point out anything about race, just gender.
3. “Conservative ideas are always being put down by the liberals! They say we should be open minded, then yell and stomp their feet when an idea counter to their ideas is voiced!”
Okay. So… here’s the thing. If one side says “We should be open minded” but the other side says “Well, fuck those people, they don’t deserve the same rights or opportunities we have” then YAH, the first side is going to be like “What the hell” at that idea.
Not all ideas are equal. I’m not saying that everything the left/liberal ideology is better, or even that most of it is. But it’s hard to compromise when one side says “I think we should try and help these people who have been marginalized” and the other side goes “No, we should keep things as they have been, by merit!” And which that completely ignores the last several hundred plus years of cultural norms that have been ingrained into our collective psyches.
You can not compromise when two sides of the argument are “yes” and “no.” Both sides, sadly, have often taken to a “my way or the highway” approach. This means that while there are often poignant and intelligent points on both sides, they often get drowned out by those yelling louder.
If someone tells you (no matter how polite their wording is) that your ideas are wrong, your beliefs are wrong, then yah, they’re going to be mad.
4. “The Left is being biased themselves, only hiring people because they’re diverse, and not through merit or skills!”
In our culture, a white male has a lot more chance to earn merit then any other group out there. Yes, in a perfect world, this wouldn’t be a case. In a perfect world everyone would have the same chances to earn merit and skills. But this is not a perfect world, sadly. Pretending like it is isn’t going to work.
It’s only been somewhat recently (I would say starting around WWII for various reasons) that the idea that “men are the dominant, the bread winner, the competitor” has actually started to be challenged, where the idea that women can do jobs men do is being tested. That’s going up against 2,000 plus years of “women are suppose to stay at home and have babies and raise the family.” That’s not something we’re gonna figure out any time soon.
So… any other questions?
