Memex, A New Search Engine Developed By DARPA
DARPA stands for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. This agency belongs to the United States Department of Defense and it strives for the development of new technologies for use by the United States military. DARPA has played a major role in the development of many technologiesincluding the internet. DARPA is now working to create a new search engine that will be used to uncover patterns and relationships in online data to help the authorities track and uncover illegal activities on the dark web. Illegal activities on the internet can easily be uncovered by authorities. However, due to the development of the darknet, illegal activities have greatly been facilitated. Since then black markets have developed on the darknet, facilitating safe and secure illegal trading on the internet. An example of black market on the darknet is the Agora Marketplace URL. This why DARPA is developing this new search engine called “Memex” that will enable authorities uncover illegal transactions on the darknet.
Memex
The search engine has been in work for about 1 year now by a team of different contractors working with DARPA. Search engines currently in use right now such as Google and Bing are not capable of accessing the darknet and this is why Memex is being developed. Memex will be able to access more internet content including contents of the deep and dark web. Therefore being able access onion websites such as the Agora marketplace URL and other darknet sites which are only accessible through TOR browser and only by individuals who know the specific address of the site. This search engine will enable different authorities such as law enforcement in preventing illegal activities and apprehending law breakers on the darknet.
Attempts had previously been made by law enforcement authorities to shut down the darknet entirely. However, the success of their actions was not apparent due to the growth of darknet sites such as Agora Marketplace and Evolution which survived the attempts of law enforcement. This is what led to Memex project in order to find a way that would cripple these black market sites completely.
Agora Marketplace URL
The Agora Marketplace URL is one of the leading darknet marketplaces. The Agora Marketplace is a black market site that only a few privileged individuals have been able to access. Many individuals are still in actively searching for ways to access the site. However, most have not been successful. Agora Marketplace was created with one main objective, to facilitate anonymous trade. Meaning trading activities in this black market site cannot be traced and the traders cannot be identified. Goods exchanged in this online marketplace are delivered through a private market courier to avoid detection by authorities. This darknet site was launchedin 2013 and was mostly used in the trading and dealing of illegal items. The Agora Marketplace reputation of reliability spread, making it widely known. However, accessing the Agora Marketplace URL is still very hard and risky.
