A Greener Tooting

Wildlife at Tooting Bec Common

Like many people I have become increasingly concerned about our environment over recent months, and having young children also about what kind of world we will be leaving for them. But with ever increasingly frenetic lifestyles, trying to be more environmentally friendly sometimes feels like a huge effort on top of our daily lives.

From an environmental point of view Tooting really is an exciting place to live. We already have our very own Zero Waste Bar (Tap 13 in Broadway Market) and a fabulous Zero Waste Shop (BYO in Tooting Market). There are signs in a number of the pubs saying “No to straws” and it’s easy to shop locally with the plethora of independent shops and market stalls. We also have our own Gin and Wine made right here in Tooting, what better reason could there be to shop local?!

I want to explore what kind of changes we can make as a family that fit easily in to our lives, that if we all made them, would make a huge difference. I definitely feel that there is a huge willingness to make environmental changes within our local community but we all have busy lives, so the changes really do need to be easy.

I’ll be trying out ways to reduce plastic waste, recycle more, waste less food, shop locally and generally live a more sustainable lifestyle in Tooting. I’ll be sharing updates on how we do with you here on my blog and also on social media.

There is so much happening on our doorstep here in Tooting I don’t think it’ll be too hard to make the changes, please do follow my journey and join in where you feel you can.

A Little Bit About Me:

I’m a mum of two young girls living in Tooting. I moved here 2 and a half years ago and love our local community. I want to find some ways to make it easy for myself and others to live a more sustainable lifestyle. If we all make small changes it makes a big difference to the world that we live in.
