Don’t Sit In The Balcony

I recently returned from a wonderful trip to Madrid. I loved everything about the city…the people, the culture, the language, the food, and the beautiful weather. I enjoyed it so much that I can’t wait to go back. I made some new friends that I hope to see again when I return. I didn’t have enough time to do everything I wanted to do yet it was still an enjoyable vacation.

While there I was able to go to the theatre, something I try to do in every major city I travel to. I’ve always had a lofty dream of being in a Broadway show. I could have been the next Nala in The Lion King, or even Glinda in WICKED. But…since I haven’t been singing, dancing, or acting every waking moment since birth like most professional performers, I’ve had to choose a different career path. Not to mention that I DID audition for The Lion King several years ago when they were holding auditions, but nobody ever called me. So I’m fine with just watching.

The show I saw while in Madrid was called, “Más de 100 Mentiras“ or “More Than 100 Lies“. Don’t ask me what the show was about. Although I can speak a bit of Spanish, I’m not fluent. So the show could have been about people lying about who broke the toaster and I wouldn’t have known. I just went for the experience plus the singing and dancing were fantastic.

So the show was great but here’s the problem I had…the girl sitting next to me. Every five minutes she was on her phone. She was updating her Facebook status, instant messaging, and sending text messages during the entire show. I don’t know who was more annoyed with her phone illuminating brightly in the dark every few minutes, me or the guy sitting on the other side of her. His occasional disturbed-looking glances didn’t do much to deter her behavior. The only time she took a break from mobile socializing was when she decided to bless the entire balcony section with her rendition of each song sung in the show. Oh yeah, essentially I paid 40 euros to hear her sing along.

So if anyone can tell me what the show was about I would greatly appreciate it. Between you and me, if you ever go to Madrid and want to see a show I suggest you pay a little more money to sit in the orchestra section.
