Facebook does not particularly care if the information is valuable, or well articulated, or useful, but rather, entertaining, so you keep returning to Facebook and clicking on ads.
The Destructive Switch from Search to Social

This is the reason I’m a fan of “creating a product that is paid for by the users”.

Most social platforms and entertainment sites are a product built for advertisers, not the users. Luckily there are enough hacks you can employ to simplify your life.

Be warned, the longer you’ve been stuck down the rabbit hole the longer it takes for the effects to ware off (I’m still going through that process myself).

Here are some of my personal top tips.

1) pick at most just one social media account to maintain for close friends and family – my preference was Facebook for reason number 2.

2) only access this social media account in a web browser on your desktop and instal a news feed eradicator and ad blocker. No more mindless scrolling, it’s fantastic.

3) use ‘entertainment sites’ warily and on devices you don’t access all the time.

I.e. YouTube/medium on your iPad and not your smart phone. Your ‘smart phone’ should be relatively empty now. I’d switch to an old school Nokia in an instant if I didn’t use the hotspot feature regularly.

That’s what worked for me amongst others.

It started over 12 months ago as an experiment for 6 weeks. I just didn’t have a reason to go back…

Slowly cutting Facebook out now too, as I’m contacting the people that matter most in other ways.
