Stories Behind the Grind features the men and women behind small businesses. Showcasing the passion, persistence and patience that are put into these businesses each day. As outsiders, we just see the successes that occur, not realising the many countless hours spent behind the scenes. Stories Behind the Grind seeks to reveal the veil and uncover more.
Natural progression
What started out as asking café owners about their businesses eventually culminated in Stories Behind the Grind, allowing others to see where businesses started from, challenges they overcame and advice they have for those interested in pursuing a career in their industry. Through the power of social media (Facebook/Instagram). Café owners, small batch suppliers, photographers, fitness professionals, plumbers, artists and bakers have all been featured. Across Australia (Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide) and Internationally (London and the USA).
Act as a source of inspiration for current and prospective entrepreneurs
Starting your own venture can be both scaring and exciting at the same time. In fact this is the best frame of mind to be in. It’s exciting because it matches with your passion/what you want to do with life, and it’s scary because of all the uncertainty and ambiguity. By acknowledging some of the challenges that small businesses face, those looking to enter the industry can be more well equipped, and for those that are already in the industry, they can get ideas and inspiration.
Curiosity
How did they start? What inspired them? How did they overcome their challenges? How can I apply what they have learnt into my own life? Who supported them through the hard times? Why have they kept going? What is the next stage of their business?
Community
The Stories Behind the Grind community is growing everyday. It delights me when people collaborate because of being featured. The page will continue to grow to allow like-minded individuals to help inspire each other and to network.
