Roller skating is my favorite workout. Growing up, I would spend time at the local skating rink for school skate nights and birthday parties. When the COVID pandemic started, I decided to re-live my childhood and purchased a pair of rollerblades to use outdoors. To be honest, this was probably the best $100 I’ve ever spent. You can explore nature while getting a great cardio workout. According to ChatGPT, here are the benefits of rollerskating:

Cardiovascular Fitness: Roller skating is an excellent cardiovascular exercise that gets your heart rate up and strengthens your cardiovascular system. Regular skating sessions can improve endurance, increase lung capacity, and promote a healthy cardiovascular system.

Muscular Strength and Endurance: Roller skating engages various muscle groups, including the legs, glutes, core, and even the upper body if you incorporate arm movements. Regular skating can help strengthen and tone these muscles, improving overall muscular strength and endurance.

Balance and Coordination: Skating requires balance and coordination to maintain control and stability while moving. As you practice and improve your skating skills, you’ll enhance your balance, agility, and overall body coordination.

Joint-Friendly Exercise: Roller skating is a low-impact activity that puts less stress on the joints compared to activities like running or jumping. It can be a suitable option for individuals with joint sensitivities or those seeking a lower-impact form of exercise.

Weight Management: Roller skating is an effective calorie-burning activity that can contribute to weight management or weight loss goals. It can help increase energy expenditure and contribute to creating a calorie deficit when combined with a balanced diet.

Mental Well-being: Roller skating can be a fun and enjoyable activity, which can help reduce stress levels and uplift mood. It offers an opportunity to be active, socialize, and enjoy the outdoors, contributing to improved mental well-being and overall happiness.

Improved Flexibility: Skating involves various movements and positions that promote flexibility in the lower body, including the hips, knees, and ankles. Regular skating can help improve overall flexibility and range of motion in these areas.

Bone Health: Roller skating is a weight-bearing exercise that helps strengthen bones, promoting better bone density and reducing the risk of osteoporosis.

And most importantly, rollerskating is fun (lol, I know that sounds corny)!
