My InnerPlanet is channeling feedback from the future

As Sara Olsen is known for saying, what gets measured, gets managed. Which is why, when it comes to one’s personal planetary impact, visibility and control are essential aspects of any effective carbon drawdown strategy. We are launching InnerPlanet to deliver on this need.

InnerPlanet is a personal carbon tracking technology.

InnerPlanet is an app for measuring and reporting personal carbon emissions. It tallies the carbon emissions associated with the activities of daily living such as transit, home energy use, and emissions from the consumption of goods and services.

Together, this information offers insight into an individual’s actions and their resulting impacts on the environment. Kind of like Fitbit, but for environmental impact.

These impacts are depicted graphically as a glorious little pulse: InnerPlanet.

InnerPlanet is is an instrumentation tool for understanding cause and effect, emissions and impact. It lives on your phone screen, like a little earth tomagachi, dynamically rendering according to your actions.

This information is used to construct a projected global temperature rise, if everyone were to emit the same as you. In this way, InnerPlanet functions as both a tool for understanding an individual’s actions and their resulting impacts on the environment, as well as a tool for building equity into the system.

We all know that in normal life, the most effective communication is not a ‘topdown’ campaign, but an intimate, friendly conversation. InnerPlanet creates this conversation with every single person about their particular planetary impacts, and their environmental opportunities — in an individual, trustful and helpful way. We are requesting funding and support for the launch of InnerPlanet as a collective technology that delivers this vision.

Here’s Rafe, an amazing fellow and a co-creator to InnerPlanet giving us the high level.

About us

We began as an ad hoc group of individuals, and have grown into a high functioning unit, aligned around a unified sense of purpose and carefully crafted organizational tenets. We cover two continents and three countries, and continue to grow.

We have come a long way on a lot of volunteer effort. We have developed a preliminary carbon tracking system using an Excel calculator. We have developed preliminary designs for planet renderings. We have even scoped out an operating system for open source engagement that we believe is poised for massive, broad-based co-creation.

We intend to go public with this project on October 25, 2019. In partnership with Climate-KIC and their global Climathon effort, we will be releasing an open source tool kit for anybody to support the development of this mission-critical technology. But we need help and funding to activate this vision.

Join the movement

Without collective action, affecting climate change is as impossible as any one of us controlling the weather. But with each of us doing our part, we can achieve exactly this.

Our request is for your involvement with the global launch of InnerPlanet. We are launching InnerPlanet with an open source build taking place in regional clusters across the globe on October 25–27. Register here:
