Army Museum Lahore- A place where Nation’s History resides

Lahore is the historic cultural centre of Punjab and it has always exerted a strong cultural influence over Pakistan. A recent addition to Lahore’s attraction is an Army Museum. Yes, a museum that is a true work of art and historic events.

Army Museum Lahore is the Landmark Project and is one of its kind in the whole region. It is located at Amjad Chowdhary Road, Cantt. The work of the Museum was commenced in June 2015 and completed in a short period of time and was opened for the public in September 2017. This project was supervised and directed by Lt. General Sadiq Ali, HI (M), Commander 4 Corps and was assisted by Major General Sardar Tariq Aman and Major General Muhammad Aamer, respectively.

Now, moving on to what makes this museum so special? It is, without doubt, a high class maintained area with all the attractions for a little kid to an adult. The Museum is more than just a source of information about our nation’s history, for it’s a tribute to all the martyrs of armed forces as well.

Chief’s Wall- Army Museum

The museum is basically divided into two sections. The outdoor area has tanks, helicopters and other aircraft to satiate the eyes of a visitor. The view simply gives the gist of the grandeur of our Armed forces. As soon as one steps into the main entrance one could feel the change in the environment. The first section in this area is the “ Shuhada Gallery” which has the carved names of all the martyrs since 1947 till 2016, to pay homage to our heroes for giving us a homeland.

Army museum Lahore portray the history and heritage of the Pakistan Movement titled Rebirth of a Nation, Quaid-e-Azam, Armed Forces, and Pakistan’s War history its events including the fight against terrorism especially a complete section regarding the incident of APS. Other sections include the Documentary room, Nishan-e-Haider Gallery, Life at highest battlefield i.e Siachin, a complete corner dedicated to enlightening the issue of Kashmir, a wall of Army Accolades and Women in Khaki, a section of Pakistan’s contributions in United Nations and a section of Nation-building efforts and the tribute to sacrifices of Minorities titled white of the Flag.

The Gallery of Arms and Swords are worth watching as well. It should be mentioned here that each section has a particular music system as well which make visitors feel that each and every artefact of the museum is communicating with them. The 3-D representation of the Check-post of Major Aziz Bhatti Shaheed is another intriguing part of the museum. However, children below 12 years are not allowed in this section. Each section has properly documented records and a guide to help you. The museum also has its own cafeteria.

The museum opens from 9 am to 4 pm from Saturday to Wednesday for the public and one can enjoy the Museum for a mere ticket of Rs: 50, but it would be wise to mention here that they have a daily limit of 1000 people so if you are planning a trip to the museum do it quickly as its worth visiting. And be prepared to get emotional and proud!
