Oh the future…

It can be an uncomfortable and frightening place to put your mind sometimes.

I have always been a planner, someone who must know what each day brings a week or two before it actually comes, someone who memorizes their own daily plans, as well as the daily plans of others… someone who’s just well… a walking planner inside and out for themselves and everyone else. Quite often, I just seem to have it [my life] figured out.

As I think about the future where there is no clear vision on exactly where I will end up or who will be beside me then, I try my very hardest to make something up based on my own expectations and dreams, but I slowly become frighten that not everything will go as I would like it too.

I’m quickly learning that I must allow every situation in my life be as it will, instead of thinking as it should be. I must not think too much on how I believe my future destinations should be because I only create problems that were never there in the first place.

Although overthinking about the future gets me nowhere besides an anxiety attack, one piece of advice I have found to be useful is this, “if you can’t stop thinking about it, don’t stop working for it.” No matter what roadblocks may arise on the journey to our destinations, the future always seems to work itself out. So it’s not so much the destination we must focus on but rather the journey in which we must soak up and enjoy.

No one’s life journey will come easy, and if that’s all you want, then clearly you don’t want the destination badly enough to fight for it. You must know what you want, have a plan to get there, and just ride the journey come hell or high water. If you really want something, you’ll find a way; not an excuse to make quitting seem easy or right.

Here’s to living a life day by day, learning to love the journey even through roadblocks and bumps.

“Don’t think about what can happen in a month. Don’t think about what can happen in a year. Focus on the 24 hours in front of you and do what you can to get closer to where you want to be.”

Journaling to ease the mind, relax the soul, and creatively document my life's adventures...
