Window 10 Shortcut Keys

I’ll start from basic and then move on to advance level both are equally valuable since they make our lives a lot easier.By using these shortcut keys you can save your precious time and get the most out of Windows 10 with these shortcuts.

I divided them into different group according to their usage.

Their usage is very much clear by their group name.

Editing:

to Copy.

CTRL + V:

to Paste.

CTRL + X:

to Cut.

CTRL + Z:

to Undo.

CTRL + Y:

to Redo.

CTRL + D:

to Delete.

Usage Of All:

you know the usage of these simple and common shortcut keys.

Alt + Shift + Up/Down:

Arrow to move bullets up and down.

Usage:

This is used when you are making list of anything.

Now let’s understand it’s usage.

during the list work you see that you put an item on fourth position but it has to be on the top of the list, then usually you use to select the thing by using mouse or a keyboard then cut it, go up there at top and paste it there. But it’s time consuming ,so for saving time we use this shortcut key.

Find and Search

to find text.

Usage:

you might have used it in IDE or editor where a lot of text is written and you have to find a particular word from that text.This shortcut will save your time.

Windows Key + Q or Windows Key + S or Just Press The Windows Key Selection:

to search any thing on your window.

CTRL + A:

to Select all the things shown on your screen.

CTRL + Click or Shift + Click:

to select multiple items.

Click means here mouse click or any arrow.

Usage:

both work same but there is one difference that is :

if you want to select the thing in continuous manner then you will use Shift + Click.

if you want to select things that are not in continuous manner then you will use CTRL + Click.

Shift + CTRL + Arrow:

to select entire words at a time.

Windows Management

to jump between two open windows.

Usage:

like you are working on multiple applications and now you want to switch to another application then use this.

Alt + F4:

to close a window.

Usage:

instead of clicking cross button on top of screen using mouse you use this shortcut to save time.

Windows + # key:

to bring up app you placed on task bar where the # corresponds to position on the taskbar.

Usage:

you pinned many app on taskbar, now you want to open one app from there which is on third position from left,then one way is that use your mouse to go there and then click it.

but instead of it use Windows + 3 as 3 represent its position on taskbar from left side.

Windows Key + arrow keys:

to split a window in different positions.

Usage :

you can divide your desktop screen into four parts.

like you are listening the lecture and at same time you want to open the ppt and you want both screen in front of you then use Windows Key + left key to put one screen on left and Windows Key + right key to put another screen on right side.

if you have four screen then use up and down key also.

Windows + D:

to see desktop. Toggle back and forth.

Windows + M:

to minimize all windows.

Browser Navigation

to navigate forward or back.

Usage:

like you search a thing on internet and then by mistake you click on wrong link or by mistake you click backward arrow or you want to go back or forward you can these keys instead of using of mouse then going to back or forward button.

CTRL + T :

to open a new tab.

Usage:

if you want to open a new tab in your browser instead of clicking the plus button, you can use CTRL + T to open a new tab.

CTRL + Shift + T:

to bring up closed tab in browser.

CTRL + Tab:

to move to next tab.

CTRL + Shift + Tab:

to move to previous tab.

Usage:

using this you can switch among the tabs opened in your browser only in backward direction.

F5 or CTRL + R:

to refresh a web page.

Zoom

to zoom in or out.

Virtual Desktop

Windows + Tab:

to open task view.

task view where you can see your current apps.

Windows + CTRL + D:

to add a virtual desktop.

Usage:

if you opened many apps on on desktop and now its creating problem in switching or doing some other stuff by using this key you can create a desktop same as your window desktop with no apps running and now you can work on both screen simultaneously.

Windows + CTRL + Left or Right Arrow Keys:

move between them.

Usage:

you created a virtual desktop and now you want to switch to main desktop use this shortcut key.

Windows + CTRL + F4:

to close virtual desktop.

Usage:

after completing work on virtual desktop , if you want only main desktop than this shortcut key will end your virtual desktop.

Display

Windows + P:

to project to an external monitor.

Usage:

it will open a tab from right side , from where you can connect to external monitor or projector.

Others

CTRL + Shift + ESC:

opens task manager.

CTRL + P:

prints.

Windows + L:

to lock your PC.

Windows + E:

to launch File Explorer.

Windows + G:

brings up Game Bar which allows you to screen record.
