silly doctor,

she thought when he put the stethoscope on her chest.

for she had no heartbeats left.

she smirked, thinking that the doctor was surely gobsmacked. silently, he removed the earpiece from his small ears and put them in hers. then, he slipped the chestpiece over his own heart.

he whispered, ‘me too’

and so they sat together in silence. trying hard to remember what heartbeats sounded like.
