Ok — in today’s lesson, I want to talk to you about D.R.A.M.A.
That stuff you seem to be surrounded by … the neverending huffs and puffs coming out of you because of THOSE PEOPLE doing things to you.
I see this a lot. Vaguebooking posts like, ‘SOMEONE needs to read this’
Drama.
Or
‘SOME PEOPLE just don’t care about me’
Drama.
Or my personal favourite.
‘SOMEONE needs to take a good hard look at themselves’
JUST.STOP.
The person who needs to look at themselves is YOU.
Now this isn’t to anyone in particular.
I’ve been known to partake in a little passive-aggressive Vaguebooking myself until I got this nugget of wisdom.
What was it?
‘Blame Yourself FIRST!’
A bazillionaire online entrepreneur named Alex Becker wrote it.
And it’s stuck with me ever since.
It’s the most empowering piece of 3 worded advice I’ve ever gotten (although it does hurt sometimes).
So why are we blaming ourselves first when it comes to other people doing shitty things to us?
Because we can’t control them. We can only control ourselves.
And I’m not talking lying in the foetal position bawling your eyeballs out because you’re the worst person ever in the world ever.
No.
I’m talking about taking ownership of the fact that you feel that way because of YOU.
They’re treating you that way because of YOU.
Which gives you the power to change it (when you give them the power, you can’t do that).
So when you give yourself power, you change your behaviour … which changes how you’re treated.
Simple.
