Great post! ive been following storj for a while now and this was great, i enjoyed this post a lot… ive been very aware of the state of storj so none of this really comes as a surprise to me…

theyre whole business model was never “dropbox killer”… they keep saying they want to “sell” it to developers and get them to build things on top (so they dont have to do it themselves?) and use storj as the underlying storage tech… so far weve not seen much like that… but yeah, i dont think it was ever the idea to just be a consumer facing dropbox like platform… like they dont even have a gui uploader lol

you kinda skipped some research on the gordon hall and the rate limit… wouldve made this whole thing 200% better if you went down those rabbit holes.

the reason you couldnt upload the 5GB file was because the “free tier” has limits… this information is really hidden away and NOT easy to find… its usually in the comments when someone ask why he cant upload files…

The free tier is “3GB/h, 10GB/week and 25GB/day”

oddly enough its 25GB per “day” but only 10GB per week? i think they meant 25 per month lol.

trying to run the whole system yourself is pretty much still a nightmare, but if you really just wanna throw some data at the storj network using the “free tier” you can just install filezilla and use that.

fyi bookchin aka gordon hall was the lead dev and he and some other people left the project a couple weeks ago and started the “orc network”… the details on what exactly happened in the team to cause them to leave are kinda unclear, but he made this reddit post telling everyone he leaving… it was pretty funny

do sia coin next
