This tutorial explains how to use ‘shell’ in context of 2D-3D.

For the solid blocks we made in the previous tutorial , we are going to see how to use ‘shell’ command and make walls for the solid model.

step 1 : Type ‘SHELL’ command and click on the bottom surface of the solid block ..

and thickness (-1) .

step 2 : To know the thickness of the roof-

draw a line on inner top edge.

then draw a vertical line from the end point of the inner line.

select the vertical line and the solid and intersect them using ‘INTERSECT’ command.

we get two points as shown in the above picture to measure the distance .

The move the horizontal line from bottom to top of the surface.

measure the distance with ‘DISTANCE’ command of those two points to know the thickness of the roof.

step 3 : To adjust the roof thickness .

type ‘SECTION’ command and draw a line from one edge to other edge and you get a frame of section of that line mentioned.

move this section curve out of the solid.

measure the distance from top edge to bottom edge of the roof section till where you can snap ‘perp’ point. To adjust the thickness, draw line from top edge to bottom edge till you snap ‘PERP’ (perpendicular) point and ‘TAB’ (lock) the direction and mention the thickness and draw the line.

To move the roof surface, type ‘MOVEFACE’ command.

select the bottom surface of the roof.

move the surface from the bottom point to the end point of the line and the surface moves to the required height.

step 4 : To extrude the walls from the 2D curves.

Unlock the 2D layer.

select the curves and move them .

use ‘PLANARSURF’ to make a surface for the curves we selected.

extrude the surface using ‘EXTRUDESURF’.

when you forget to click on solid while extruding the surface, type ‘CAP’ to cover the top surface of the extruded walls.

and you can see the top surface is closed .
