Choosing a new sofa….
You have just got married and are planning your new home. One of the furniture pieces you will be shopping for is a new sofa. Question is how will you know which sofa is best for you with so many choices out there?
Here are some points to consider:
- Mixing with old furniture
Are either of you bringing any furniture pieces from your former residences? If yes, where will you be placing these pieces? What sort of sofa will fit in with these pieces?
2. Sofa style
What style do you want? Will it be a classic style often called “Victorian”? Or is your taste more towards the sleek lines of a contemporary sofa.
What material will fit in with your lifestyle? Leather, while being long lasting will be quite expensive.
Fabric is less expensive but can sometimes feel more comfortable though it is not as easy to maintain or clean.
3. Colour theme
What are the colours that appeal to you? Are you wanting a monochromatic look where black, white, grey are the predominant colours, maybe with throw pillows or accessories introducing a few bursts of red or orange?
If the neutral palette is your preferred choice, then beige, cream, coffee will be what you are looking for.
How about a sofa in bold colours to liven up a dull looking space?
You may not have a very definite understanding of how to choose colours but having some ideas in your mind will help.
4. Assembly
Will your beautiful new sofa be able to get in through the door of your house! How is it assembled? This is especially true for corner or L- shaped units. So make sure this is taken into consideration when making your choices. Many corner units, however can be disassembled for delivery and then bolted back into shape once all the pieces are in your living room.
5. Size
Do you have enough space to house a 7 unit sofa set or large corner unit? This is a very important consideration and is closely linked to the issue of whether you can even get the piece through the door into the house.
Is it going to choke up the space and make your living room look cluttered? Even if you want to go for a ‘complete set’, why not think of placing the single chairs in bedrooms.
