A Few Things I Bought In July

As many of you know, I’m really really trying my hardest to be a more conscious consumer and to think long and hard about purchases before I make them. June was pretty much a bust for shopping of all types. I saw nothing in shops that I liked OR everything was out of budget. (At least my meager budget). But July I am back with a vengeance and having to tell myself,

“That’s enough with the treat yo’self spirit. You’re cut off.”

But it’s been a long year, a non restful summer and there’s big changes in the future. Plus, I’m in the midst of getting rid of a lot of clothing that doesn’t fit. And there is quite a lot. I was so full of self loathing in my twenties, but my wardrobe was killer and I have no idea how I fit into any of it. When was I ever this size? I’ve been really working on shopping from good brands who aren’t horrible to the environment, the workers and the customer and that is shockingly hard to find. So here I’ve tried to do my best. One of these brands I give a load of side eye to because they’re ultimately owned by a man who shovels money at the right wing and I’m sure you can guess which one. But let’s go through this list.

  1. Isn’t it amazing how everything from the nineties is back and it cost triple the price we paid in high school? I’ve had my eye on this Esprit x Opening Ceremony dress since I first spotted it and it finally went on sale. I would have wanted this in high school and would have been laughed at by my Mum because of the pricetag. Treat yo’self!
  2. Both of these sandals are the same and they’re vegan and also on sale from here. They run real small so scoot yourself up to the next whole size. Treat yo’self.
  3. I never feel guilty shopping Mara Hoffman, it’s a very ethical brand. This dress is no longer 30% off the sale price which makes it really out of my budget. This one just barely fits my boobs, but I really needed a summer dress that screamed “LOOK AT MY TITS”, because all my other titastic summer dresses are too small. Treat yo’self!
  4. These pants are so cute I can’t take it. Also on sale from Wildfox. They’re going to pair really nicely with the red sandals and the last item. A pair of big sunglasses and I might get mistaken for someone who made an effort. Treat yo’self!
  5. So this is where all my money was really spent. Everything else was within budget, but I Love Mr Mittens, always pushes that budget right off a cliff. I thought long and hard about it though. This is my third I Love Mr Mittens sweater and I gotta say, I never regret any purchase even if it hurts my wallet at first. This is going to give my wardrobe a necessary injection of color. Treat Yo’self!

Right. If I try and buy anything else, slap my credit card out of my hand. I’m counting on you.
