Job search is a journey that is very confusing, tiring, and exhausting. It's like solving a tricky puzzle. Finding the right job, applying for it, filling up the application, and writing the cover letters, is a long process.

So in the dynamic job market, Job Swipe aimed to personalize the experience of how individuals discover and apply for jobs with the “SWIPE” feature.

Problem Statement

Design a job app that works like Tinder. It is for job applicants and hiring managers, to give them personalized results. Due to limited screen space, the goal is to facilitate quick decision-making, similar to the swiping feature on Tinder.

Design Process

Topic Selection and Research
We were given a list of topics from Nights and Weekends and had to select one topic for our one-pager website.

I chose to design a “Job App that works like Tinder”.

Understanding the User

I came across a wide range of target users each with distinct needs and preferences and decided to narrow down the scope to work for two types of users:
1. Job Applicants — Professionals actively seeking job opportunities.
2. Hiring Managers — Recruiters, HR professionals, and business owners looking to fill job positions efficiently.

Finding Problem & Possible Solution

User Flow

The potential features and major flows for this app were the following —

  1. Onboarding flow
  2. Swipe flow (job search flow)

Style Guide

I chose Blue color to symbolize trust, loyalty, confidence, and intelligence.
For typography, I chose two typefaces: Poppins, an approachable, balanced, and versatile, that fits the contemporary & professional look of the app; and Inter, a typeface perfect for applications and detailed user interface.

“Swiping Mechanism” is the feature that makes this app different from the other Job search mobile applications.

Swipe right to SHORTLIST and swipe left to SKIP.

Takeaways & Learnings

  1. Always keeping the primary goal of helping users find the right job, it’s important to avoid excessive content from the screen that can hinder clarity.
  2. Keep iterating be it visual design, topic selection, or card information architecture.
  3. “What you consume is what you create”. I had to refer to many mobile apps (job hunt and dating apps) to understand the flows, screens and moodboarding to get the visual direction in mind.
  4. As a part of the assignment, I designed the app specifically for job seekers.
My target users included both job seekers and hiring managers. I will also design for the other group of users.
  5. I recognize room for improvement in the problem-solving and visual aspects of the project.
