A Little About Internship at AirAsia

It has been a week after my incredible internship in AirAsia with Veny Charnita Ginting and Sultan Saladdin finished.

I served as a software engineer intern on AVA team at AASET (AirAsia Software Engineering and Technology) and loved every minute of it. AVA (AirAsia Virtual Allstar) is the beautiful 24/7 customer self-service that can help the user to book flights, check flight status, buy an add-on, amend and many more. The culture and energy displayed by everyone in my team made me so exciting to come to work every day and learn about all things software engineering.

My project is related to AVA, and I built a wrapper for encryption and decryption that can be used by various services. While worked for this project I learned a lot about software engineering in practice, the concept of microservices, the concept of cryptography, how to work with Google Cloud Project, how to manage secrets using KMS and Storage, how to create a workflow, and how to built project-based thinking with a can-do attitude. Not only have I been able to complete the project and gained knowledge, but I’ve also been pushed to meet higher standards and encouraged to think more critically about my code.

My mentor and I bonded quickly, and she didn’t hesitate to show me the ropes of software engineering, and everything that goes into it. I was thrilled that she really allowed me to do everything related to my project on my own with her help. So I learned and experienced more.

When I started my internship a few months ago, I was terrified. Being a kid from Bandung, I wasn’t sure how I’d fit into the World’s Best Low-Cost Airline. But my education at Brawijaya University more than prepared me to tackle this internship. Also, I never would’ve gotten this opportunity without alumni from my university at this company, Boy Mustafa. Connected with him and soaked up as much information as possible, help me in unimaginable ways. Don’t forget about my new best friend, Veny Charnita Ginting, gone through our every day together and supported each other.

Between the experience gained and the people I was able to work with, this internship was more than I could have ever hoped for. Working in AirAsia has taught me a lot of things, most importantly that no day is the same. Each day brings something different, including meeting new people. I am so thankful for the opportunities I got to take part in and the project I got to complete for an amazing company, with amazing people. Now, I feel incredibly confident and ready to face my future.
