The actions of great people are accomplished by their inner strength, not by the means of doing it.

“Per Aspera Ad Astra”, the Mammoth Art Canvas at my Studio

Yes! That’s the painting which has offered great lessons for life. It all started on 1st February, 2020 when I shared this post on Facebook.

The Facebook Post

While some friends knew about the painting, they said things like “Finally, after a year…” or “Good to see it. Took a long time…” (I cover the (in)significance of the “Time” aspect here). The Loves and Likes poured in bountiful supply. People were amazed at the magnitude and colours of the painting and mentioned appreciations like “Inspirational” and “Genius”. As it happens with any social media thread, it lasted for a couple of days and the Hedonic treadmill set in. People got back to their own lives, which is the way it works. …

Great things happen to those who work towards a goal greater than themselves, and do so in a selfless manner.

The Installation

With Adithya’s hardships having come to a close, or seemingly so, I guess it was my turn now. While Adithya was busy with the painting through April 2019, I had come out with the concept, song-list and album cover for my next album “Voider Perspectives”. For those who do not know, I also have a day-job in a Technology company. …

The practice of concentration on a single object is the best way to overcome the obstacles.

The Making

In October 2018, I wrote an e-mail to Adithya Bhatt on the concept of the painting. We had a couple of calls after that and post a series of discussions, link-shares and imaging of the painting, Adithya was all set to start work. To keep things in context, he was going through one of the worst phases in his life. In a sense, he was going through hardships and for him to egg himself to execute this painting was no mean feat. …

The Inception

Like many of you, I devote a certain time in a day to read — mostly online. With a varied interest ranging from Human History to Psychology and Neurosciences to Geo-politics, Spirituality, Biographies and inspirational anecdotes, I find myself learning something new, every moment — it keeps the inner child within me alive, that little curious child “me” which gasps at every revelation received during the day!

Lesson 1 — Surrender to seek → Learn like a child → Gasp at every revelation → Repeat.

In one such session, I landed on the Latin proverb “Per Aspera Ad Astra”, Through Hardship to the Stars. Absolutely inspirational and resonant for me. I then dug further to see if there is any Indian equivalent of this. Soon enough, I came across a research paper in “Journal of Consciousness Exploration & Research” titled “Mind Over Matter: Investigation of Materialization of Intentions”. Heavy reading you’d think? I think not. And I keep saying this to my friends — for each of us, our self-deprecation is the biggest hindrance to our purpose. …

In fine arts, when you make a painting, it’s just a painting. But if you make a painting in the entertainment industry, it can be an album cover or a t-shirt or a logo. I like that entertainment has this usefulness — that it’s ultimately trying to make a bunch of people feel something, and to think about life and be able to use things that were so simple and direct but potentially have a really powerful effect. Andrew W.K., …

A thought during the illness, the greatest teacher

The sea’s only gifts are harsh blows, and occasionally the chance to feel strong. Now I don’t know much about the sea, but I do know that that’s the way it is here. And I also know how important it is in life not necessarily to be strong but to feel strong. To measure yourself at least once. To find yourself at least once in the most ancient of human conditions. …
