The Museum and I: National Museum at a Glance

AESTHETICS IA#4

Artists use a variety of ways to express themselves and to showcase their art. Be it dancing, singing, and even designing. There are a lot of ways an artist can self-express. In our present time, the most famous form of art is paintings and the occasional sculptures. You can see a whole lot of these things in public such as graffitis and statues, built to commemorate people, places, and important events. To truly appreciate these works museums were built to house various collections of arts created by various artists. One such place is the “National Museum of the Philippines”.

For our AESTHET class, we were tasked to go to a museum and enjoy artworks found there. We have to choose at least eight (8) artworks found in the museum to reflect upon. Being a normal person , a not an art critic, the only thing I did the whole time inside the museum was to tilt my head left and right and try to understand the meaning of the artworks displayed in front of me, of course I also took pictures to upload to social media.

Simple yet beautiful

Of all the artworks there I guess all I can say is that it reflects the emotions and thoughts of their creators.

Playing Hide and Seek

Each and every painting and sculptures there represent the creator’s passion and commitment in creating art for self-expression. The paintings depict people, places, and events that the creator must have experienced or just how they perceived what happened during those times. Some paintings were colorful and emanate positive energy like the creator was trying to share their joy and excitement.

Some paintings were rather depressing specifically in a room we went into. The room was green and it depicted scenes during the invasions and wars the Philippines experienced. War, destruction, death, and families being torn apart , it was quite depressing like I can feel what the people in those paintings and sculptures are feeling and it’s making me sad.

“A Plea for FREEDOM form FEAR”

Aside from the emotional roller coaster the artworks took us to, I was also able to reflect how amazing we people really are.

Imagine being able to create paintings much larger than a human person and almost touching the ceiling, and the sculptures that looks so human like that you might think they are really humans trapped in cement.

When you’re broke af

I felt great because I saw how humans could create such works of art. I was also able to reflect upon how important it is that we recognize and preserve art.

It is an important task because it houses our culture, our lives are reflected on it and if they are destroyed then it would seem like our lives are also destroyed.

Pencil drawings

The whole experience was fun because for a whole afternoon all I see was beauty in various forms, and it was a chance to bond with friends and discover the beauty of the world through the eyes of different people. It was a great experience indeed because I realized things that made the world more interesting.

And adventures are more fun with friends.
