Any given Monday

I love Mondays.

I haven’t always but I do now.

I love Mondays as an entrepreneur, because it’s like having an empty canvas I can paint. Nearly all my weeks end with a feeling of having left a lot on the table. Monday is the antithesis of that — when everything feels doable, possible, attemptable. Monday is T=0, and my efforts will shape the slope of this week’s curve: flat, steep, whatever.

I love Mondays as a parent, because my weekends (while unimaginably joyful) are more exhilarating than they are restful. I cherish quality time with my wife and son — going to the park for tennis or taking mini-excursions around NYC— but I also love the shared experience of independence that Monday delivers. I love seeing Armaan excited to leave for school in the morning and getting text updates from Mani about her day. I love imagining the myriad things that must astonish and awe him as he scooters, strolls and adventures through this beautiful city. I love picturing her walking into a new coffee-shop to catch up with a friend or explore a new work opportunity. Our shared independence gives me confidence and makes me proud.

I love Mondays because I stack the deck. Sunday night HBO/Showtime has been my favorite TV programming for years and I love saving an episode or two of Insecure, Succession, whatever to enjoy on Monday evening. Monday is also the night I scurry to Brooklyn for 1.5 hours of basketball training and scrimmage. It’s not always pretty but it’s me at my purest, most childish-like form. The adrenaline keeps me up late, but it’s worth it. It keeps my dribble alive.

I love Mondays because it’s usually before the storm of the news really hits. There are always 1 or 2 gems in my Spotify Discover playlist — and I love new music.

I love Monday because of the little things, and that feels pretty big.
