I would caution raising children to believe the key to happiness is making others happy. No one is responsible for another’s happiness. Now, can we teach children to be kind, compassionate, forgiving, charitable, respectful, cheerful, grateful, loving? Yes! But many children and adults become emotionally dependent and/or involved in emotionally or physically abusive relationships because they believe they are at fault for not living up to the other’s unrealistic and unhealthy expectations.
Thank you for the post. These are all good things to ponder and practice.
