Ajmer pronounced is one of the major and oldest cities in the Indian state of Rajasthan and the center of the eponymous Ajmer District. It is located at the center of Rajasthan. It is also known as heart of Rajasthan. The city was established as “Ajayameru” (translated as “Invincible Hills”) by a Chimamanda ruler, either Ajayaraja I or Ajayaraja II, and served as their capital until the 12th century CE. Home to the dargah of Moinuddin Chishti , Ajmer is one of the most important destinations of Islamic pilgrimage in South Asia.
Ajmer is surrounded by the Aravalli Mountains. Ajmer had been a municipality since 1869. Ajmer has been selected as one of the heritage cities for the Hriday and Smart City Mission schemes of the Government of India.

The Two-and-a-Half Mosque Dhai Din ka Zopda in Ajmer The Dhai Din K Zopda literally means ‘ a hut of two and a half days’ and the origin of the name is attributed to it being built in only 2 and a half days but that seems improbable. Ana Sagar Lake:
Ana Sagar Lake in Ajmer is a scenic artificial lake, built by Arnoraj Chauhan who was the grandfather of Prithvi Raj Chauhan. He was also known by the name of Anaji hence the lake is named after him. Ana Sagar Lake is the biggest Lake in Ajmer, with the maximum catchments area with a depth of maximum of 4.4 meters and can store about 4.75 million cubics of water. Ana Sagar Lake is one of the most famous lakes in Rajasthan and offers a number of recreational activities for tourists visitng Ajmer. There is an island in the center of the lake which is accessible by boat. Boats could be hired from the east side of the Dault Bagh.
Taragadh:
This fort was known for its strength and strategic importance. First attack on this fort was made by Muhammad of Ghazni in 1024 AD. He laid down the siege, was wounded and failed to take the fort.
Prithviraj, son of Rana_Raimal of Mewar and elder brother of Rana sanga, captured Taragarh fort of Ajmer during the end of 15th century, after slaying Governor Mallu Khan. The fort is also called Taragarh, named after Prithviraj’s wife Tarabai. It remained under control of Mewar and later Rana Sanga granted it to Karamchand Panwar
