Here’s a trick that I’ve found works wonders. Do “sprints” with friends. Sprints are essentially pomodoro sessions, except give yourself the option to figure out the right time length. My friend B and I seem to work best with 20 minutes.

We’re not in the same room (or even same province), but we run them through chat. When we’re ready, someone will initiate the “go” and then we’ll both time our segments. And when finished, we’ll jump back on the chat and say “done.”

There’s a couple of benefits:

  1. We don’t bug each other on chat during these times, as we’re both heads down working.
  2. There’s accountability — we’re honest with each other when they aren’t going well, and cheer each other on when they do. And we say what we’re trying to accomplish.
