Hey you misunderstand about Japan! < 1 >
<1> Oh Japan! I love SUSHI !!!
Do you know Japanese food?
You might say, yes. Of course, it is Sushi. When I said I came from Japan, a lot of people showed me their passion for Sushi. “ From Japan! Cool, I love Japanese food! There are good Sushi restaurants here!! “ That is the most reaction I’ve got in Germany so far.
Hm, how should I react…? Because I am not a big fan of Sushi and I am not sure if Sushi is representative of Japanese cuisine. Of course Sushi is one of Japanese cuisine but it is not what people in Japan eat very often at home. At least it’s not for everyday. One example of basic Japanese cuisine for everyday is served with rice, soup, one main dish with animal protein from meat or seafood, and two side dishes with vegetables, soy products, seaweed for instance. It is called 一汁三菜 [ichi ju san sai], which means one soup dish and three dishes.
I have found an article about health in English somewhere and it explained why Japanese people can live long and stay healthy. The answer was because Japanese people eat Sushi (fish) and drink green tea everyday. Will you believe this and would like to eat fish as Sushi everyday? Congratulations, you might take in too much carbohydrate and salt, which is not good for your health at all. Compared to the amount of raw fish, you eat rice more with Sushi. Syo-yu (Soy source) contains salt and Sumeshi or Shari (rice for Sushi) is seasoned with vinegar, salt and sugar. If your tongue is working well, you might have experiences to be thirsty after eating Sushi. Please enjoy Sushi but I don’t recommend eating them everyday. Japanese people don’t do that.
Do you know Japanese food? If you like Sushi, you should say you know “Sushi”, not Japanese cuisine.
Japanese cuisine has a variety of great taste with a variety of food. I am sure you will know Japanese food at least a bit more…I have some recommendation for you :)
