LFX Mentorship : Learn and Earn with Open Source
The Linux Foundation Mentorship Program, commonly known as LFX Mentorship, stands as a testament to the organization’s commitment to fostering talent and innovation within the open source community. Much like other renowned programs such as Google Summer of Code (GSoC) and Outreachy, LFX Mentorship provides a structured platform for individuals to contribute to open source projects under the guidance of experienced mentors.
How to Participate
Please go through the Mentorship Guide for detailed process.
You can participate in the Linux Foundation Mentorship program as a program administrator, a mentor, or a mentee.
Program Administrator: As a program administrator, you will enroll in a mentorship program on the platform and act as a single point of contact for mentors, mentees, and the Linux Foundation HR and finance teams. Specifically, you collaborate with mentors during the application review process and work closely with The Linux Foundation’s HR and finance teams to oversee the mentee acceptance process and stipend payments.
Mentor: Mentors volunteer their time to work with mentees during the mentorship program. You will need to create a mentor profile on the Mentorship platform before requesting to be a mentor for the Linux Foundation Mentorship program.
Mentee: Mentees need to create a mentee profile in order to apply to The Linux Foundation’s mentorship programs. As a mentee, you will have the opportunity to contribute to an open-source project while working under the guidance of an experienced mentor who’s an active contributor to the project and open-source community.

My Journey at Hyperledger as a LFX Mentee’23
Congratulations , you have joined the expansive realm of Hyperledger, my journey as a mentee in the Hyperledger Onboarding Mentor/Mentee Program has been a profound exploration. This program, dedicated to enhancing the user experience for newcomers, became a catalyst for my transformative six-month mentorship. In this blog, I’ll delve into the intricacies of the onboarding project, the impactful mentorship, and the lessons learned along the way.
What I Worked On:
Project Name: Hyperledger Onboarding Mentor/Mentee Program
General Objectives: Enhancing the user experience for newcomers and developing a comprehensive onboarding plan with key deliverables were at the core of my Project Plan .
Accomplishments: I meticulously crafted a detailed onboarding project plan and utilized the Hyperledger Onboarding Work Spreadsheet for collaborative project management. Additionally, I had the privilege of presenting the LFX Hyperledger Onboarding Journey at various organizations in India.
Hosting Hyperledger Mentee Bonding Session : I organized a Hyperledger Mentee Bonding Session for all Hyperledger 2023 mentees and mentors under the guidance of my mentors and our program manager Min Yu.
Hyperledger Technologies and Tools: In the pursuit of streamlined onboarding, I leveraged Hyperledger technologies alongside tools such as the Hyperledger Onboarding Work Spreadsheet for dynamic research and progress tracking.
Technical Skills Utilized: My technical prowess came to the forefront as I applied user experience design principles, HTML, CSS, Material UI, JavaScript, Go Lang, Git, Markdown, and the React framework to execute various aspects of the project.
GitHub Contributions with Arun’s Guidance: A significant facet of my journey involved impactful contributions to Hyperledger’s GitHub repository. Under the guidance of Arun, member of our Hyperldeger’s Technical Oversight Commitee these contributions became pivotal in shaping the community’s resources and accessibility. Impact on the Larger Community: Beyond the virtual realm, my Hyperledger journey reached a pinnacle with an offline meet with Julian Gordon, Hyperledger Foundation’s VP, Asia Pacific, at Hyperledger Innovate 2023. This face-to-face interaction with Vikram Sharma , Kamlesh Nagware , Ravi Pratap Singh, PhD Kartikey Kashyap ,Ritu Jain offered unique insights and further strengthened the connection within the Hyperledger community. It was a moment of shared passion and commitment towards the growth of Hyperledger Foundation.
What I Learned or Accomplished:
Deliverables: Through the redesign of the Start Here guide, integration of popular Hyperledger YouTube videos, and the organization of the Hyperledger Mentee Bonding Session, I significantly enhanced the user experience.
Technical Skills Growth: The mentorship allowed me to hone my skills in user experience design, web development technologies (HTML, CSS, Material UI, JavaScript, Go Lang), version control with Git, documentation using Markdown, and application development with the React framework.
Excitement About Technology: The prospect of integrating Hyperledger’s popular YouTube videos and witnessing the community’s commitment to improvement and collaboration fueled my enthusiasm.
What I Gained from Working with Mentors:
Mentor Impact: The guidance from my mentor, John Carpenter, played a pivotal role in accelerating my learning and problem solving. I am very grateful to have him as my mentor. The mentorship program also provided an opportunity to chair the Onboarding — Documentation Task Force under Bobby Muscara. I would like to extend thanks to Niku Singh and Peter Somogyvari as well for guidance throughout my journey. Additional thanks to Arun S M for helping me learn to navigate and contribute effectively to the Hyperledger GitHub repositorywhich put me on the path to becoming an active participant in shaping the community’s resources.
Leadership Skills: I along with support of my mentors organized Hyperledger Mentee Bonding Session on Tuesday, August 22 orchestrated by Min Yu ,our program manager at the Hyperledger Foundation. This event served as an invaluable opportunity for me to connect with fellow mentees and mentors across Hyperledger’s spectrum
What Comes Next:
Career Development: Looking forward, I aspire to contribute meaningfully to the Hyperledger community and explore further career development opportunities within the realm of Hyperledger ecosystem.
Next Steps for the Project: I envision recommending continued enhancements for sustained improvement and integrating emerging technologies into the project. I am planning to continue as a contributor to the Hyperledger Onboarding Task Force.
Community Role: Aspiring to play a pivotal role in fostering a welcoming environment, my future includes active participation in Hyperledger community initiatives.
CONCLUSION:
Hyperledger Onboarding Mentor/Mentee Program has been an immersive journey filled with accomplishments, lessons, and exciting opportunities. The impact on the larger Hyperledger community is tangible, with improved user experiences and enhanced collaboration.
