Commissions Gone Wrong: Caravaggio’s Death of the Virgin

Rejections in the world of art happen quite often. A patron could change their mind on what they want or they just don’t like the finished product of what they have commissioned from the artist. So, what happens when a patron rejects the piece that they commissioned? For the case of Caravaggio’s Death of the Virgin, created in 1606, I will be explaining how and why this rejection occurred and also what happened with the piece after its rejection.
