How my day goes by at Plant ?
So i work in a MNC which is into the field of automation of Oil and Gas Industries. I was told to go on a site within two weeks of my joining. I was told that work that was supposed to be done in the month of December has been postponed to July of the next year . Which i had to go and get it finished. Obviously since the work was delayed, the customer was angry and i had to deal with it.
Now this is how my day goes by:
I get up 7. Get ready, have breakfast made by my mom and leave by 7.45 in my Dad’s bike. Now the plant (where i need to get the work done) is around 25 kms away. I have divided the route in three parts: the beginning which is 9Kms and then the middle portion with death traps of 9kms and remaining as the Destination which is around 7Kms. The beginning is a good road and has no issues after which i turn right and ride for 9kms which has three death traps. Death traps are nothing but the pot holes and worst roads. These death traps get activated during rain and its really hard to predict when you and your bike will go 2feet deep inside the water so you need to follow a truck or a car infront of you to predict the solid ground. After which i cross a railway track and reach the destination road of 7 kms which has mini death traps and then reach my plant.
Now, here i need to get a entry pass done at Gate No:1 and then again one more pass at Gate No:2 and then go the site incharge and get them signed along with three more sheets of paper. After which i tell my sub-contractors to get their labours inside the Gate No:1. After which i give the papers to the sub-contractors who gets it signed from Security officer and then submit it to Gate No:2 who will then give Tokens for the workman. After which we will be allowed to enter inside the plant. Now, neither phone, camera or laptop can be taken inside the Gate No:2, so i keep all my stuff in Admin Block in a conference room and just carry a file consisting of a book to take down notes and some project related files. Now to enter Gate No:2, you need to have Safety Shoes and Safety Helmets.
The main issue in the project is that the work has been already delayed by six months and the customer is angry with it, so he asks for the updates everyday which i need to answer. Over the first month, nothing was done at site as there was neither man power nor material.
So what i need to do is to supervise and take decisions regarding the project at site. The work that has to be done is to replace a set of instruments with new ones. Its not easy as it sounds. The main problem is, not all materials that has to be replaced has reached site but the customer does not understand that. He wants the work to be done as soon as possible. Now the sub-contractor is also kind of very slow and idiot. He took one month to get man power and only 4 of them came while one left in the middle and one more joined later. So i have only 4 workman to work with to get a project done worth lakhs of rupees.
Its a Gas plant, so always have to be careful. I need to look at workmans, write mails regarding the decisions i took to my company, get scolding from the customer and then scold the sub-contractor.
Like every story there is devil here too. The devil is nothing but another contractor who hates my MNC. So he refuses to help regarding any small thing. He directly challenges to my face that he is just there point my mistakes and make my company look bad in front of the customer. Now i have to handle this guy as well.
To be continued….
