Humans have evolved from apes. It is called evolution, not change. Because it is not just a change but a positive change. This positive change is generally called growth. And growth is the feeling that keeps us alive.
Then, what do we call a negative change? Yes, change is inevitable! So, if the change is not positive, it should be negative. Do we refer to such a change as a drop? I don’t think so! Change can not be a single parameter to justify growth. So if positive or negative changes do not justify growth, then what justifies the growth?
I believe it is learning. Learning is the parameter of growth. A growth that ultimately leads to evolution. Learning has been a key feature for evolving humans from apes. So if one learns to learn, evolution is inevitable.
“I am not a skilled learner. Can I still evolve?”
The only skill required for learning is Urge. And if you don’t have it, you may learn but not evolve. Urge or curiosity, whatever you call, it is the path for evolution. Just clearing the doubt, “Necessity is the mother of invention (evolution), but the invention is not asexual 😜”. I feel Urge is the father of invention. And it requires proper parenting for healthy inventions or evolution.
“I don’t have the curiosity/Urge. Is there any other way to evolve?”
If you find it lacking, then what you need is Change my friend. Change is a loop. Hopefully, you will find the urge/curiosity developing in any of the iterations. Your necessity and urge will better help you understand what to learn.
“Ok, I know what to learn. But from where should I learn?”
As far as my experience, the following have been my sources of learning:
1. Experience
Mathematical set of events, events that have involved one’s presence, all add to experiences. The event helps us learn and lots of events give us perspective. This perspective is the torch for the next iteration of the learning cycle. If one wants to boost the learning cycle, it is important to gain more unique experiences. To get more unique experiences, it is necessary to maintain distance from the comfort zone.
2. Observation
The collection of others’ experiences is observation. It is not possible to experience everything. Relying only on experiences may make you slow paced-learner. This source of learning is not as impactful as the “experience” for developing a perspective. But it can be helpful in questioning the perspective. This helps in better shaping the perspective.
3. Information
The most structured way of learning. It is the archive of multiple observations and experiences. It may impact the lowest on perspective, but it may add the dimensions impossible to experience or observe.
“Am I good with learning now?”
Just try this. Imagine you learned that “Lying is bad” from the different sources of learning. As the sources of learning are different, they will have a different impact on perspective. But do you think only sources of learning matters for building the perspective? The source of learning matters for a unique perspective, but it does not assure the same perspective.
Try another one for a better understanding.
The next learning “ Atom comprises protons, electrons, and neutrons”. Very few people are privileged to learn it from sources other than Information. When this is taught in a class, most of the students have the same perspective towards the atom. As this dimension of perspective is new for students, very few questions it. But in class, one student raises concern -
“But a cell is the lowest unit of the body. At least biology teacher thinks so.”
Wait, wait!! If the dimension is new to everyone, how come there is someone with a different perspective.
Okay, the kid is combining biology with chemistry.
But why? Then why didn’t everyone mix it?
Because it gave thought on what the teacher is telling.
But why only a single person gave thought on it? Why not others?
Because he was curious about it.
But why only a single person curious about it?
because the kid wanted to learn it
And guess what?? kid learned it. And that is the simple art of learning.
Whatever be the source of learning, it will add to evolution if one tries to give a thought on it. Without thinking, without investing energy on it, one can not learn.
Learning is not a single continuous cycle. It is infinite cycles of question-answer-analysis running in parallel.
The ability to question depends on your curiosity. The impact of the answer depends on the sources. And the analysis helps in developing perspective.
More the perspective widens, the more you evolve. Trust me on this Feeling learning gives you a feeling of growth. And that’s my booster of life. And that’s how I try to evolve.
Disclaimer: I’m also learning to learn. This Information is the archive of my experiences and observation. I would really appreciate your thoughts on it, because if you don’t give a thought. It may not help to evolve.
