The Slow Learner Mindset: Embracing Your Unique Path of Knowledge”

If there is one thing I love in this life, it is the beauty of childbirth, whether human or not. It fascinates me a lot. One of the most amazing things about giving birth is the time it takes. For humans, it takes nine months, but for others, it can be shorter or sometimes longer. A cow takes about 10 months, while chipmunks and rats take about a month. I like the mystery of this because, to me, this is what life is sometimes. We might all be trying to give birth or do something new, but it just does not happen at the same time.

It could be learning something or trying to build a new product. Regardless of what it is we want to do, it doesn’t always happen simultaneously. You can leave your house at the same time your neighbor does, going to the same place, but you end up getting there at different times. This is because you might have stopped to say hi to a friend, while your neighbor might have been stuck in traffic. The truth is, whether the destination or the journey is different, and this makes the time it takes to get to our destination different too.

School is a perfect example of this, and it’s going to be my focus while we have this conversation. There’s always that student who is brighter, who knows 2 before the lecturer finishes the statement “1 + 1,” and then sometimes there’s us, still trying to figure out why the answer is two. All I’m trying to say today is that there is nothing abnormal about us. These things weren’t supposed to be learned in a day, week, or month; the most important thing is that we’re learning. Regardless of what you want to understand, understanding that there is no time frame is important.

The important thing for you should be the fact that you’re getting there, the fact that you knew 1 today, then 1, and then 1 + 1, and then what the plus sign in 1 + 1 means, and then what they meant when they said “equals to,” and finally the answer, which is 2. You know more about what you’re learning today than you did yesterday, regardless of how fast every other person is learning, you are still learning, still moving, still keeping your destination as your focus.

So learn at your own pace, learn so that you know, so that you never forget. It might take one day, it might take a year — the most important thing is that you’re learning. Remember, slow and steady wins the race, and remember, this race is personal. I know the goal for everybody is to be able to provide for their wants and needs, but don’t compare your journey with someone else’s.

BE YOU. BE UNIQUE. BE DIFFERENT.
