Projects are very important for resume. Good projects can get you land your dream job.

If resume is the vehicle then projects are the wheels. It takes you forward in your career.

Library management system, ecommerce website are common projects. Majority of the students have these kinds of projects.

Try to make projects that are uncommon and shows your development skills as well as your knowledge of a particular subject.

So, why projects are important for resume?

We all mention our skills in resume. If we can’t justify them they are of no use. So, in order to prove that we know those skills we make projects.

Projects show that what we have learnt can we implement them in real life.

Projects show our innovations. How your ideas are different from others. How can you implement those unique ideas? Unique ideas always impress the interviewer.

Suppose you are interviewed for a web developer role. So, how an interviewer would know that you are actually a good fit for the role. First, by asking you questions about it. It shows that you know concepts theoretically. Second, by projects, it shows that you actually know to implement the concepts.

How many projects should you showcase in the resume?

Maximum four projects should be there in the resume. The level can be intermediate. If you are highly skilled then you can go for higher level projects also.

You can also showcase beginner level projects in the beginning. As you go deeper in the tech stack then try to make medium level projects and can replace the old ones with the new ones.

Answering interview questions about the project in the resume.

You should be well versed with the project. You should know each and every line of the code so that if questions are asked you are able to answer them all easily.

Generally in interviews you are asked to describe your project so you should be able to speak for at least 5 minutes.

You should know why you have created this project, what is the motivation behind the projects, what all problems you faced while making the projects, what features can be added later on, what is its future scope and feasibility if implemented on a large scale.

Your project should be deployed but if not at least it should be uploaded on GitHub with proper documentations and screenshots.

Why having a project live on the web/playstore and having real users can give you an advantage in your interviews.

Having a project live on the web/playstore gives you an edge over others. It gives a better picture of your project to others. Having real users show that you have solved a real life problem. The solution is helping people and it was actually needed. It shows your thinking skills, that you are practical and can give solutions and in the company also you can give the solution to the problems faced.
