Man is a social animal.

So I was taught at a very young age in school.Perhaps you were taught the same too.

I accepted it. It seemed as obvious a statement as any. But recently, I have found myself questioning this statement. At least, a bit.

Here are my reasons for doing so.

See how he acts in a faceless crowd. Under the shroud of anonymity. How he interacts with others. Loses all sense of what it means to be human. Giving in to the basest of emotions.

Let’s consider the exact opposite scenario.

See him when he is all alone by himself. See him then interact with his surroundings. See him then interact with nature. He is in the moment. He is free. He is content.

He is human.

When we started, we were not the tallest, the biggest, the fastest or the bravest. We couldn’t fly, couldn’t swim. We had no choice but to come together as a society. It was a matter of our survival. And make no mistake, it worked.

We need one another. We always have and always will.

But maybe, just maybe, there is a part of us searching for that solitude. Searching to be alone. Searching to be one with nature.
