Minimalism

“The stuff that you own, ends up owning you”. Not sure where I read that first. It was Fight Club maybe. But that one sentence makes so much sense.

Remember the number of times you check your pocket in a city bus just to make sure that your phone is not pick pocketed. Or maybe that mini heart attack you had when you forgot to lock your bike in the parking. Or even, the frustration you go through when you don’t find your fav shirt.

All the above things come at a cost. Cost of loosing your peace of mind. In the process of owning that latest phone, or that fav shirt, you tie yourself to it. You are extra cautious about these stuff that you “Own” now. Before you know, you are going to be upset about all this. When that new phone of yours dies out of battery, or when that new shirt of yours catches a stain, you feel betrayed.

We human are greedy by nature. We want it all. But with every piece of new possession that we make, we give it the right to own us.

Lesser we own, more detached we are.
