How to set or reset NPS iPin or password to access NPS online

As soon as a customer open NPS account, he/she is granted a unique PRAN (Permanent Retirement Account Number). Customers can keep a track of their NPS account on the NSDL website using the mobile app or their designated NPS account on the NPS portal. As a security measure, NPS customers are also given a confidential iPIN which they can use to login to their NPS account. For customers that wish to generate an iPIN or reset their iPIN, they can follow the procedures mentioned below.

Advantages of NPS iPIN

The iPIN (Internet Personal Identification Number) is the unique password of the subscriber for him/her to login to their respective NPS accounts . The Advantages of iPIN for NPS account are listed below:

  • Using the iPIN, customers can access the CRA system in order to check their account details, nomination details, bank account details for both Tier-1 and Tier-2 NPS account holders.
  • With the NPS iPIN, customers can keep track of their NPS account details.
  • All the monthly contribution can be easily tracked using the iPIN.
  • Subscribers can lodge a complaint — that can be registered against CRA or Nodal officer after logging in with iPIN.

When customers will be required to reset their NPS iPIN

Customers will be required to rest their NPS iPIN if they are faced with the below mentioned scenarios.

  • Initially when the customer enrolls with the NPS, the iPIN is sent by mail to the registered email of the subscriber. As soon as the subscriber receives the mail, he/she can use the iPIN to login to his/her NPS account. As a security measure, customers are advised to reset their NPS iPIN.
  • If the customer has forgotten his/her NPS iPin.

As soon as the customer tried to reset their iPIN, an OTP (One-time password) will be sent to their registered mobile number. Enter the mobile number and continue with the process of resetting the password.

Steps or reset NPS iPIN

As already mentioned, as soon as the customer has been enrolled in the NPS, the iPIN is mailed to his/her registered email. On receiving it, customers have to change their NPS iPIN. They can do so by following the listed steps

  • Once the customer has subscribed to the NPS scheme he/she will be allotted the PRAN (Permanent Retirement Account Number).
  • Log on the the NSDL website once your PRAN has been allotted.
  • On the bottom right corner, click on Set/Reset IPin.
  • Now enter the details like PRAN, name of the account and date of birth (DOB).
  • Note that all details entered should be the same as mentioned in the PRAN card.
  • Next, enter your password (iPIN).
  • Re-enter the password.
  • Once the password has been entered, click on “generate OTP”.
  • The OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number.
  • Enter the OTP on the portal and click on submit.

NPS subscribers can reset the Password or iPIN if they have forgotten their password or if their account is locked. In order to prevent unauthorised access, the NPS account will be locked if the user enters incorrect password five times in a row. The subscribers has to then reset the password by answering the secret question even when the account is locked. If in case the user is unable to remember the answer to the question and is not able to reset the iPIN, he/she will have to submit a request for reissue of iPIN.
