Sachin Gupta the CEO & Founder of HackerEarth conducted an online webinar last week at Times Techies Webinars’ Session on an eye-catching topic “Top Tech skills required to be Job-ready in the post-Covid World!”.

He started of stating “Unlike other sectors, technology has shown great resilience to the Covid outbreak and its impact on livelihoods.” He also mentioned how a lot of business are forced to go digital just for rebound. He stated describing the pay-cuts and layoffs in the tech sector are short-termed “While it might take you a little bit longer to find the right job for yourself, as you will eventually find one.” He also stated that for those who are not impacted by this pandemic it’s also a great time for them as well to skill themselves up and be able to do more, as this is the Golden Hour. He quoted along saying “When the sea is rough Fishermen make their nets,”.

The few topic’s he covered for “Landing a Dream Job” were:

->Top Tech Jobs:

A few statistic on Career Karma and Indeed showed the peek raise in demand for the jobs for a AI/ML Engineer by 334% in the past 3 years, which was then followed by Data Scientist, Information Security Analyst (Cyber Security), Traditional Software Engineer, Full Stack-Developer, Devops/Cloud Engineer, Frontend Developer and Mobile App Developer. Sachin Gupta also shared the results of the latest survey conducted by HackerEarth that the next skill the crowd wants to learn is Data Science.

->Start-Ups and Enterprise:

When it comes to picking out a job between a Start-Up and an Enterprise what do we choose? Would it be risky to choose a Start-Up during this period? He stated saying that Start-Ups would be a great way to start one’s career and invest a good amount of time in one as it gives a lot of exposure. “But pick wisely where to join, ensure that the role adds a lot to your career, but if one is looking for stability and isn’t aggressive about the career graph, then go for a larger organisation”.

->QA is here to stay:

Quality Assurance (QA), he said would continue to be a big profession in India. Stating the following “Automation isn’t going to replace manual testing entirely; that is a long road. In the meantime, QA Engineers today aren’t just testing systems. Instead they are writing scripts, building models and even using Data Science to create these systems that will not only contribute in testing the application at a certain time but will also create a continuous testing infrastructure. Understanding scripting languages and knowledge of various testing tools would be the key here.”

->Stand out:

What are we doing during this period to stand out from the crowd? Are we updating our skills and adding on new ones? It’s the time to reshape and refresh our resumes to highlight the ones Unique Selling Propositions, (USPs) to have an edge over the rests. Most of the crowd don’t belong to the tier one college, so instead he sated that by contributing in open source projects as well as participating in online Hackathons and starting a side project would give us an upper hand and confidence over the rests and make us stand out from the general crowd.

->Strengthening Fundamentals:

Many have a Formal CS Degree but why only a very few pass the coding rounds/technical rounds during interviews or placements? Having a strong basic fundamental in any of the basic programming languages like C / C++ / Java (and a few more) is a must. What they seek…the good problem solving and logical thinking skills (on how quickly we can break down a certain problem into various sub parts and come up with the best possible solution to it as a whole. Basic or a good knowledge of Data Structures and Algorithms is a must!

->Prepare:

He highlighted that Tech interviews are the hardest. One is supposed to practice a lot either by using online resources or amongst the peers before they face one!

->Start Early:

Preparing for an interview or placement isn’t a day’s task one needs to be equipped with the knowledge, practice before the D day .

Buddy’s there are no short cuts to the success ….as it requires rigorous practice spanning from three to six months to gain the realistic confidence towards the desired Goals !!!
